Kgetlengrivier Municipality Welcomes Major Investment in Road Infrastructure
Kgetlengrivier Local Municipality, together with the North West MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Hon. Sempe Elizabeth Mokua, officially introduced MCIVILS as the appointed contractor for the rehabilitation of the 79.5 km R509 road between Swartruggens and Magaliesburg.
The sod-turning ceremony marked the official commencement of one of the region’s significant road infrastructure projects and was attended by municipal and traditional leadership, including the Municipality’s Executive Mayor, Chief Whip, Speaker, councillors from the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality and Rustenburg Local Municipality, as well as Kgosi Mathope and other invited stakeholders.
A Strategic Investment for Regional Development
The rehabilitation of the R509 represents a significant investment in the road infrastructure of the North West Province. As an important regional transport corridor, the upgraded road is expected to improve the movement of people, goods, and services between municipalities while strengthening connectivity across the Bojanala Platinum District.
The project is also expected to contribute to local economic development by improving access for businesses, supporting tourism and agriculture, and creating a more attractive environment for future investment.
Creating Opportunities for Local Communities
Beyond improving transport infrastructure, the project is expected to generate employment opportunities for local residents while creating opportunities for local businesses, SMMEs, and emerging contractors to participate during the construction phase.
The Municipality welcomes the anticipated benefits of skills development, enterprise growth, and increased economic activity that will arise from the implementation of the project.
Appreciation to the Provincial Government
Kgetlengrivier Local Municipality expressed its appreciation to the North West Provincial Government, under the leadership of MEC Hon. Sempe Elizabeth Mokua, for investing in infrastructure that will benefit communities across the municipality and the broader Bojanala Platinum District.
The Municipality also looks forward to working closely with MCIVILS, provincial government, and all project stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of the rehabilitation project for the benefit of current and future generations.
