Public Notice: Waste Management By-law

The Municipality of Kgetlengrivier Local Municipality hereby publishes the Waste Management By-laws set out below, promulgated by the municipality in terms of section 156(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 and section 9(3)(a)-(d) of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008.

The purpose of these by-laws is to promote a safe and healthy environment for the residents of Kgetlengrivier Local Municipality by regulating waste management activities, ensuring waste minimization, recycling, and environmentally sound disposal practices in accordance with the National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 (Act No. 59 of 2008).

The by-laws cover, among other aspects:

  • Collection and removal of domestic and business waste;
  • Obligations for waste generators regarding recycling and proper storage;
  • Regulation of hazardous, industrial, and healthcare risk waste;
  • Penalties for littering and illegal dumping.
