The Minister of Transport, Ms Barbara Creecy, conducted an official oversight visit to the North West Province to assess the ongoing state of road infrastructure, with a key focus on the R52 road project, currently under construction.
🛣️ About the R52 Project
The R52 upgrade, which began in 2024, is a major infrastructure initiative scheduled to run over three years. This project is a strategic investment aimed at improving regional mobility, stimulating economic activity, and enhancing road safety for surrounding communities.
🛠️ Labour-Intensive Road Safety Programme
The Minister’s programme began earlier in Rustenburg, where she led the launch of the Vala Zonke – Labour Intensive Programme. This initiative focuses on pothole repair and promotes safer roads across the province.
💪 In a show of hands-on leadership, Minister Creecy joined workers on Dr Moroka Drive, personally assisting in patching potholes as part of the programme’s demonstration.
🚀 Building Roads, Creating Jobs
This visit and the initiatives underway reflect the government’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure and job creation. The R52 project, alongside the Vala Zonke Programme, uses labour-intensive methods to create local employment while tackling urgent infrastructure challenges.
