Mayor Thabo Jacobs Condemns Brutal Murder of Kamogelo Boikanyo, Calls for Urgent Action Against Gender-Based Violence

The Office of the Mayor has issued a strong statement condemning the brutal murder of Kamogelo Boikanyo in Reagile, Koster. The incident, allegedly committed by her former boyfriend, is believed to be an act of gender-based violence and femicide. Reports further indicate that the suspect attempted to take his own life following the incident.

In his official statement, Thabo Jacobs said:

“On behalf of the municipality, I extend my deepest condolences to the Boikanyo family and the entire community mourning this tragic loss. No words can fully describe the pain caused by such a senseless act. The killing of women in our communities is a serious violation of human rights and a direct attack on the moral fabric of our society.”

As the community prepares to lay Kamogelo to rest tomorrow, the Mayor added:

“As we lay Kamogelo to rest tomorrow, your passing has sparked a flame that will drive change in how we confront and respond to gender-based violence. Your death must not be in vain, but must strengthen our collective resolve to act.”

The municipality reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence and femicide. The Mayor called on law enforcement agencies to urgently investigate the matter and ensure justice is served.

“We call on law enforcement agencies to treat this matter with the urgency it deserves, to conduct a thorough investigation, and to ensure that justice is served without fear or favour. Those who commit crimes against women must face the full consequences of the law.”

The statement also urged community leaders, civil society, families, and residents to unite in preventing gender-based violence, emphasizing that silence and inaction allow abuse to continue.

The municipality confirmed its commitment to strengthening prevention programmes, victim support services, and community safety initiatives, reaffirming its responsibility to protect women and children and to build communities grounded in dignity, equality, and respect.
